John and I finally got appointments for our Moderna Covid booster. Not until November 3rd, which is fine, whatever. There was absolutely NOTHING available in or around where we live (Shelton, Belfair, etc.) but we found the Fred Meyer in Port Orchard had availabilities. (It’s not much further—less than an hour away). We plan to utilize that outing to grab lunch afterward! Kind of like when Nate was little and it was shot time, we’d stop at Dairy Queen afterward and reward him with ice cream.
Today I got my flu shot! I’ve been fighting a headache this evening, wondering why since I just don’t get headaches, and then I realized it’s probably from the flu shot! It’s not terrible, just naggy. But I’m glad I got that out of the way.
We’ve had a couple of days of pretty wild weather, but we are lucky that it hasn’t been even wilder. We were tracking a storm out in the Pacific that the meteorologists call a “bomb cyclone,” which was making all those science nerds squawk in awe with the record low pressure (equal to a Category 4 hurricane! EXCEPT it’s over cold water, not warm, so that makes a huge difference). It was pretty clear early on that it likely wouldn’t hit us much (aside from the coast) because it was heading north toward B.C. and Alaska. But we’ve been experiencing the “tailings.” Windy and rainy, with lots of wind north of us (and downed trees/power outages). Actually today has been windier than yesterday for us, and that’s been unexpected since I figured it had all moved on last evening. At least we never lost power and no trees fell on the house or anything. We DID have a lot of fir cones blown onto our metal roof and it was very LOUD and BANGY.
The cats have been homebodies through all of the weather drama. In fact, Nikki actually jumped up on the table and crouched down in front of my laptop, so I turned on YouTube cat videos. She stayed there for a couple of hours, much of that time riveted on those videos, with lots of ear action. (There’s a dog! Flattened ears!) Then she fell asleep with her head resting on my laptop. This was extremely unusual! She just doesn’t do this, nor is she a lap cat, and she very much enjoyed being petted—also unusual unless she’s sleepy. I was happy! (And also laughing at the cat videos).
Here’s a little ninja for ya, plus a hilarious ghost (Nate). Navy personnel were doing a tailgate trick-or-treat event:
I finished “Project Hail Mary” and OMG I LOVED it! And now John is reading it! I think I convinced him that he would love it, and I do believe he is. He’s already 3/4 through it! I haven’t heard him cackling at the humor (like I did), but he mentioned that he’s enjoying the humor.
Tomorrow we get our new chair and loveseat (but not the sofa; it’s not expected until December!) For now I guess we’ll move our old stuff (except the old sofa) into our bedroom, and then we’ll offer them up for free, as long as people come and get them and transport them.
Have you seen “Dune” yet? We watched it on HBOMax and I really liked it! I’m not sure if John did—it’s been a very long time ago since he read the book, and I would think that the movie would be a little hard to absorb without reading the book (or have a dim memory of it). But I enjoyed it a lot and would actually like to watch it again! I was glad I knew beforehand that the movie is Part I—it’s just the first half of the complex tome. I sure do HOPE they are already working on Part II.
So here’s a quick video of the wind and whitecaps yesterday. (Watch full screen to get the full effect). Also, if you turn up the sound, you'll hear Nikki squeaking for me to let her outside, which I did and then a fir cone hit the deck scared the crap out of her. She came back in and hasn't asked again).
