I was surprised that just about every single silly thing made my eyes fill with tears throughout much of the day. A beautiful dog on the National Dog Show, wagging his spectacular tail and expressing heartwarming joy, made me cry. Santa sweeping in at the end of the Macy’s Day Parade (sans the crowd; TV only) had me choking back sobs. I was caught off guard that I was so on the brink of full-on losing it (especially over silly things). Lots of energy expended holding back tears. Not entirely successful.
Later in the afternoon while John was napping, Nate FaceTimed me. They were sitting at the table eating their Thanksgiving dinner—a turkey roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, buns, veggies (can’t recall what), and pumpkin pie. He focused the camera mostly on Quinn who seemed to be doing pretty well eating his turkey (and also pushing Daddy’s buttons). At one point Quinn broke out singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
“He’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice.”
I asked Quinn, “Have you been nice?” The camera dizzily swept back to Nate’s deadpan face vigorously shaking his head “NO.” That was my first belly laugh of the day! And there were many more! Quinn: “Happy Fanksgimming!”
What really brought the smiles was learning that there is a very solid chance that they’ll be able to spend Christmas with us. I’m over the moon! Which means, yikes, I need to decorate! I may wait a bit to do that, just to make sure we’re good to go. Since it is 2020 after all, there’s that nagging skepticism regarding good news. But, since we’ve been “podded” throughout much of this pandemic, it does stand to reason. And, it’s just five of us. Also? We observe the guidelines and so WE DESERVE IT. Squeeee!!!
My emotional demeanor definitely improved after that! And then it was time to prepare OUR Thanksgiving dinner—over a pound-and-a-half of lobster tails between the two of us! Ooooh, and they turned out delicious! I basted them in a generous coating of melted butter, salt and pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and lemon juice. Than I baked them (as I always do) and oh, man. Sublime! And no, I didn’t get a photo!
