It has been a while, so a little catching up.
Our last Zoom Book Club was a major fail (OH THE IDIOCY) and I think I’m still recovering from that trauma, even though it was a couple of weeks ago now. It’s probably best to not go into further detail. Just know that I have a permanent checkerboard spot on my forehead from head—>keyboard. Our Book Club book this month is “American Dirt” which I’ve newly begun after finally getting through the absolute dreck of “Daughters of Erietown.” Already I am appreciating the excellent writing, although just about anything would feel like “excellent writing” after that travesty.
Nate and Sandra and Quinn moved into their new abode and they are feeling good about not having to RENT anymore. They have been unpacking and getting settled while working full time, which I know is stressful. I miss them so much. I haven’t seen them in four months, and at that time Quinn was sick with the flu. I feel that I am missing out.
And here is a video of Quinn LOVING the fireworks! (If you look carefully, you can see the tower of boxes in the garage waiting to be unpacked). God he’s so cute!
Helen came to visit over the 4th! We weighed the risks and determined, screw it, we’re doing this! It was WONDERFUL!! We hadn’t seen each other since January and it was so fun to feel somewhat “normal.” (Even though it is truly far from that). The weather cooperated so we spent a good amount of time on the deck and the beach; we ate yummy food; AND we imbibed in Lavender Drops!
Lavender Drops
2 oz gin
1/2 oz lavender syrup (Monin was excellent)
1/2 oz lemon or lime juice
lavender sprig
Combine in a shaker over ice, strain into cocktail glass, garnish with a lavender sprig.
(These are soooooo gooooood!!)
Oh, the ups and downs of life. The downs can really get to you. And yesterday was most definitely a downer. After 18 years, we said goodbye to Bailey. It was time, but it’s never really time, you know? She had a very long and wonderful life, although the past couple of years have been pretty tough. It is sad out.
