Well, today sure didn’t go quite as planned.
They even told John at the reception counter that my eye procedure would only take about 35 minutes, “so don’t go far.” (He’d planned to visit a high-end auto parts/tooling store relatively nearby, but ended up bagging that when it turned out further away than he thought).
TWO-AND-A-HALF-HOURS LATER, I finally emerged from GENERAL ANESTHESIA with the worst, raging headache I’ve ever experienced in my life. It was bad. Think of ice cream brain freeze multiplied by a million.
Prior to being wheeled into the surgery room, the doctor did explain that once he was “in there” and able to determine what was really going on, he may need to re-do the original DCR. By that time I was rather woozy with the pre-anesthesia calm-down drug dripping into my vein and feeling quite confused. Was I taken advantage of? Will my out-of-pocket already expensive cost be a whole helluva lot more now?
I don’t know. I do know that I desperately need this godawful extreme eye weepage to END. So if what he ended up doing results in that, and the previously discussed “procedure” wouldn’t have solved it, then so be it.
The killer headache was explained as sinus inflammation from the Afrin they administered, and probably the surgical messing around in my nose. A Narco pill eventually dimmed it. Oh, man, it was painful.
I feel pretty crappy, but at least so far I’m not majorly swollen or massively bruised like last time. Ice and heat applied to the site, and lots of meds—antibiotic, salve, pain pills (as needed), and the worst: Prednisone. Hate that stuff! Yukarama.
Update: The doctor called me tonight and explained that the DCR surgery had to be re-done because scar tissue had negated the effects of the original surgery. He also said that the surgery itself only took 45 minutes: all of that extra time was pre-op and then recovery. It sure would have been nice if they had explained that to John. They are really bad with communication.
It’s been a rotten day, in all regards. It’s so disheartening that the Supreme Court is defiling our Constitution by legalizing discrimination. I don’t recognize our country.
