I’ll be getting ready for hosting our tiny little neighborhood book club this week (it still requires cleaning the house and preparing some fun vittles). I wasn’t all that jazzed about our book: “The Lying Game” by Ruth Ware. It had a mystery element to it so it kept me turning the [digital] pages, but my eyes did get a bit weary of rolling. Let’s just say it was rather melodramatic and overwrought. And, the climatic ending, resolving the mystery, was chaotic and over the top. Not impressed overall. But it’ll be fun to get together. Both neighbor ladies have been traveling since our last meeting and it’ll be fun to hear about their adventures.
After the major tea light holder FAIL (that ended up OK but after ridiculous fail-after-fail), I finally forced my ass back into the glass studio and worked on a project that actually ended up with SUCCESS. It was pretty simple, nothing especially out of the ordinary, but everything actually went smoothly for a change! It was therapeutic. I’m happy with it!
John and I just finished a stellar series on Netflix called “Rectify,” and we were both gutted when the four seasons were over. It was a truly marvelous series with such superb writing and acting. (What is it about network television that is so godawful? Do all the good writers and actors and directors and cinematographers flock to cable instead of the networks because—why? More creative license? More freedom? Less bureaucracy?) Anyway, Rectify is riveting, about a 39-year-old-man who is released from prison after being on death row for 19 years after a DNA test exonerated him. Actually, not entirely exonerated him, but enough to release him. It takes place in a small town in Georgia and it’s a character-driven drama about his acclimation (or not), his complex family, factions of the town who are NOT happy about his release, and the corruption that emerges about the original investigation. It is fascinating, gritty, human, and did I mention riveting? I highly recommend it.
And!!! We got excellent news regarding our taxes and I had the freedom to pay off the balance of my car today. What a feeling! It will be so wonderful to no longer have a car payment! wOOt!!!
