Most (if not all) of the Harstine house windows are coated with overspray on the outside from the siding stain, which requires acetone and elbow grease to remove. (Followed by window cleaner to achieve sparkle). While John and Lee have been working all day long on the living/dining ceiling channel (pics to come), I’ve been a’scrubbin’. And a’scrubbin’ some more. As I’m sitting here writing this in the glass studio (our temporary bedroom/living space), I’m throwing some critical shade at the windows in here. The streaks aren’t rampant, but there are a few and they are driving me bonkers. Jeeze what an ordeal. I’ve been inside and outside and inside and outside a gazillion times re-applying acetone and re-applying window cleaner and the non-perfection is making me a little twitchy. That said, they do look about 1000% better. I also did the guest bedroom windows, and the outsides of the master bedroom windows (no point doing the inside of those yet, as that room is full of crap, plus sawdust is still being generated). Mostly my goal was to remove stickers and their residue, plus the overspray.
But guess what? Acetone is also nail polish remover! And guess what else? I no longer have nail polish! D’oh.
Well, crap.
And then speaking of crap ($hit), Peanut (and John) had a rough night last night. Our poor old girl was up several times throughout the night with the Hershey squirts—yup, in the house. Thankfully the flooring is protected with construction paper, but still. What an ordeal. She just “celebrated” her 14th birthday four days ago, and so it worries us. This seems to be how the decline begins. Although, she seems to be feeling fine. Both she and Bailey have been Velcroed to me all day during window cleaning and food preparation. (And Peanut’s appetite is just fine, thank you very much).
The living room side of the ceiling channel is finally complete (aside from staining)! And the dining room side is getting there. Huge job. You can’t even imagine.
What a frustrating, godawful, aggravating, difficult week it has been. It feels so wonderful to be at our happy place. Plus, John was down here most of the week (and will be again this coming week) and I missed him!
