And other random (sometimes silly) bullet thoughts (and rhetorical questions).
- When the time comes to pack up this house, do we keep our vinyl albums? (Yeah, we have a turntable, but it’s never been used since I’ve lived here—for nearly 15 years—and where in the world would we put it?…)
- What about my old purses (many of which are in great shape—I just got bored with them, but figured I’d re-use them again, although I haven’t. There are quite a number of them…) Maybe a women’s shelter! Have to do some research.
- Would love to have a garage sale, but neither our house in Des Moines or at Harstine are conducive to that (either on a busy road or too remote, and both with steep driveways and parking issues).
- Will I be able to find a place once we move to have my acrylic nails done as well as my current gal (14 years!) does? Will I have to drive to Olympia (about an hour) to find someone as good and quick? (Something tells me Shelton won’t be an option).
- (I could give up the acrylics, but my own nails are like onions: they peel and are paper-thin and horrible and I’ve always been a nail-biter. The acrylics keep me from doing that. PLUS, I have horrific cuticles. My nail gal shakes her head at those cuticles every time I see her).
- Hair cut and color? Olympia, too? I suppose I could go back to coloring it myself, but I would sure miss the more natural color variegation you get with those foils.
- I pretty much know where we’ll get groceries, but it’ll still be a drive! Half hour or more.
- Do I really really need to have a job when we move to Harstine? I. Am. So. Done. With. Working.
- Plus, that house will be a full-time job just to keep clean!
- And with John on retirement and me very likely earning a whole lot less than I do now (if I even FIND a half-way decent job what with the prevalence of age discrimination), we won’t be able to afford a housecleaner.
- Should we get a landline phone? Is there such a thing anymore that isn’t VOIP? And with good reception (like the old days?)
- Or is VOIP OK?
- Also wondering what we’ll do about TV. No cable on Harstine. The DSL works well for the internet, but it’s not uber-speedy for relying on streaming. Probably a dish is our only TV option. (And will that work with all the trees?)
- An upbeat bullet: TNT’s “The Last Ship” premieres this Sunday night (9/8c) and there is a remote possibility that Nate might be seen! A lot of people have seen him in one of the trailers that has been in movie theaters. (I’ve seen it, but I haven’t been able to find it online). The pilot (Sunday night’s episode) was filmed on Nate’s former ship, the USS Halsey, while they were underway about a year ago.
