John is so very close to being DONE with installing the hardwood flooring, but he ran out of time (as well as oomph). The last of it will take some extra time because he needs to cut the planks to fit around the poles, and some other nitty-gritty work along the french doors that open out to the deck. He’s progressed well beyond these photos, but you can see how close he was getting!
And the kitchen is done!
All of the “stuff” that occupied these spaces, such as boxes full of appliances and a toilet, stacks of lumber, saws, halogen lighting, you-name-it, now all live in the master bedroom.
The floor was very dusty from tracking fine sawdust everywhere. It pretty much gave me a horrifying reality check of how challenging it will be to maintain. But, I have to keep reminding myself that this is the worst it will ever be, because the house is still a construction site after all. While I was packing up in the trailer to get ready to head home, John ran the shop vac over the floor and he said it made a huge difference. So that’s encouraging.
Between the dozens upon dozens of cardboard cartons the flooring planks came in, plus many more dozens of empty boxes collected over the past few months, we were pretty overrun with cardboard. Today was unexpectedly decent (and dry!) so I burned ALL of that cardboard in the gully, constantly feeding the fire a few at a time. Lots of traipsing up and down the slopes alongside the gully, and boy am I feeling it tonight! My knees especially!
I took this afterward from the deck. I did have my camera with me while I was fire-feeding, but I just never got the chance. I was busy! Plus, a junk fire is a junk fire, right? It does feel good to have all that cardboard and packing material gone!
John is sooooo sore. Every move he makes is accompanied by a grunt. Poor guy!
