I wish I had more of it! These weekday evenings fly by, and now that I’m going to bed earlier than I ever used to (which definitely does help throughout the workday, but the jury’s still out whether it helps when that dreaded alarm goes off…), I just have, well, not so much “me” time. Ugh.
So, I’m in bullet mode. Sort of a stream-of-consciousness bullet mode.
- John is back from St. Louis, MO from his Boeing Leadership Training, and it’s a good thing he left when he did because the day after he returned, St. Louis had major tornado warnings and baseball-size hail!
- He called me just about every evening and had to relay his mind-boggling, amazing meals. They ranged from prime rib and King crab legs for one dinner, to crab-and-shrimp stuffed portabella mushrooms for one lunch. This is a man who would happily have a steak every night of the week, and he was pretty much accommodated with that, prime cuts and grilled by top chefs. I worried that he might not want to come home, to you know, boring shit.
- He also saw a lot of wildlife on the grounds: many, many deer, raccoon, a fox, a river otter (on the bank of the Missouri River, near to where it meets up with the Mississippi), and cardinals everywhere! And they make such an array of beautiful sounds.
- He had really nice weather while he was there (until the day he had to fly home — thunder/lightning storms beyond belief), but here at home it was dark, dreary, wet, windy, and butt-ass-cold. This has been the worst Washington spring, ever. We’ve had 2 days (barely) above 55 deg. since the first of the year. Normally we average 26 by now.
- I think I’m feeling quite down because of this godawful weather. Do you know we have yet to go to Harstine Island this year? Just not in the mood to huddle in the trailer and not be able to enjoy the deck or the beach without freezing to death.
- Finally finished a book! (Haven’t much been in the mood for reading, either! Which is very strange). It was “Limitless” which is now out as a movie. Meh. It had an interesting premise (pills that cause uber-smarts, but at a helluva price). The protagonist wasn’t particularly likable, though, so I didn’t care too much about what ultimately happened to him.
- Finally got my kiln back up and running (after John had to “cement” in the pins that hold the elements that had been drooping. I’m kind of pleased with this artsy piece. (Thinking about making some like this that fit into my wrought iron frame hangers that I’ve done with stained glass, like garden stakes):
I’ve also been experimenting with some designs for business card holders. They’re trickier than you might think!
And no, this is NOT a promotion for Harrington’s Glass Supplies. I haven’t actually bought anything from them! But, it was the only business card I had on hand.
Easter this weekend. John has to work (such a bummer), but I picked up a nice standing rib roast to take to Camano Is. to see Dad and hopefully my brother and his family. I plan cook the rib roast with that awesome recipe I have — preheat oven to 500 deg., stick in roast, immediately reduce heat to 475 deg. and cook for 7 minutes per pound. THEN, turn the oven off for 2-1/2 hours without ever opening the oven door. Every roast I’ve ever made this way turns out perfect and medium rare and juicy!
Oh. And it’s supposed to be cold, windy, and rainy.
