This week continues to be…well, damned yukky. I spent all day yesterday washing loads of King sized bedding on the “sanitary” setting, which means uber-hot water and much lengthier cycles. Then remaking the bed, which is pretty much like wrestling an alligator with all those King-sized components. And then? Within one minute of John climbing into bed with the doggies, Peanut peed on it, all the way down to the sheets.
(Yes, I’m concerned about her control. Only one “poop” since this happened. She’s been pretty good about peeing when we take her outside, but the “other” needs to happen, and NOT IN THE BED. So, she’s been relegated to a doggy bed on the floor beside us at night).
THEN! This morning I woke up to the sound of a loud CLUMP SMACK, like something had fallen and hit the floor. WTH? When I came downstairs, THIS was on the floor:
It had been hanging on the glass sliding door with a suction cup, which I’ve had perfect experiences with before. I suspect because we’re opening and closing that door a lot now to take Peanut out (since she can’t use the pet door) that the suction cup pried loose. The only savings grace is that it didn’t break. The way things are going this week, I’m beyond shocked about that fact.
Because when I peeked inside my kiln this morning, I had a a very disappointing disaster.
It was a several-step Christmas project, that started out like this:
A base piece of clear glass with cut strips in green, red, and black to frame it. And then I put a bunch of clear frit (ground glass) in the center to reach the same thickness as the framed edges. After fusing it, it looked like this:
Then, I decorated it with Christmas elements and “tack-fused” it so that those elements retained a 3D effect (but are still fused to the rest of the glass):
THEN, I placed it on a square slumping mold. This is what I woke to this morning. At first, I thought “Oh, cool!!!” But then I looked closer. Here it is still in the slumping mold:
See the huge, ginormous bubble?
AND…it cracked.
I’ve been just sick about this all day long. It’s unsalvageable. John suggested I stick it back in the kiln and do a full-fuse, which I’ll probably do, but it won’t be the same as all the elements will melt down into the glass and lose the 3D effect. But it’s possible that it’ll also melt the bubble and also fix the crack. My only other option is to toss it. I have nothing to lose.

Did you hear about the guy whose house caught fire and the fire department refused to even try to put it out because the owner hadn’t (couldn’t?) pay his $75 fee to the fire department? So, it burned to the ground while fire fighters just stood and watched. And Glenn Beck thinks this is OK. In fact, there are a number of people who think this is OK.
I am beyond white-hot rage at such a thing, and I’m really wondering just what country I live in. These people who feel this way, these people who would do such a heinous thing, are not my people.
