I’d like to hang Bill Gates by his balls. Why can’t Microsoft get it right? I am beyond frustrated. Murder is on my mind. (Now watch, *something* will happen to Bill Gates and the suspicion will fall on ME! Really, I didn’t do it, I was only fantasizing….)
I’d installed my brand new Outlook (to replace the lame Windows Mail that came with Vista—they no longer make Outlook Express). The main reason I wanted Outlook was so that I could restore all the (thousands?) of emails I’ve saved over the years that wouldn’t properly migrate from my old computer to Windows Mail. From the get-go, Outlook wouldn’t work right, and every ten seconds or so a window would pop up asking for my password. It also claimed that a non-existent program was interfering with it, and gee, you can’t uninstall a non-existent program! Nothing appeased it! So I decided to uninstall Outlook.
In a nutshell, it all went down hill from there. Blue Screen of Death, repair utilities wouldn’t work, computer would just hang. I messed with it for hours last night, trying all sorts of things and it would simply not respond. It got to the point where it wouldn’t start up at all. SO….I reinstalled Windows Vista, which turned out to be a complete “Restore to Out-of-the-Box Status.” Yup, all that migration of all my programs, documents, and settings from my old computer? Kaput. (And you can only use that migration program ONCE). I did have a backup of documents on my external hard drive, but transferring them over pretty much shuffled everything like a giant deck of cards and there is no rhyme or reason to ANY of the organization. You can imagine what a mess that is with photos alone. Yeah, they’re there, but just try to find the one you want.
Crap. Then, of course, I’ve lost absolutely everything from the past two weeks (since I got this computer), including emails. Including an email with the key code I just received to install my new Adobe software. It’s gone. I’d added the key code to my One Note (for “safekeeping”) but my backup docs for One Note are two weeks old, so guess what? No key code. PLUS, One Note keeps demanding its own key code, and I have no idea what it is or where it is. (I’m thinking it might be at Harstine?) CRAP CRAP CRAP. And if I don’t install the key code after getting into it a limited number of times, it will stop working. (And yes, One Note is a MICROSOFT APPLICATION). I just wish they would spend more time making sure their products worked instead of throwing all of their resources into making sure you can’t re-install a program because you might be pirating it.
At least the computer seems to be working fine. (Trying to find a good side to this). But what a royal pain in the ass.
