Today was downright spring-like. On my way home from the birthday party, I actually had my A/C on! My transition lenses had a workout! From what I understand, we tied temperature records for this day, that date back to 1965. It was pretty amazing. And now, just hours later, it's raining and windy and downright storming outside. One of those things that make you go "hmm." (Our leak is back....)
I think the party was a smashing success. Yes, it was noisy and nuts there, but I also recognized what an awesome place it would be if you were a kid. Video games galore, interesting indoor rides, laser tag, tubing to get lost in, a rock wall to climb -- and then outside there were go-carts, miniature golf, bumper boats, and more. Lots of kid food, too! Pizza, birthday cake, ice cream sundaes. You'd have to be a saint to work in a place like that with all the echoing buzzing and clanging of the video games and the screeching children high on sugar. Lord. And the young (probably high school age) girl that served our table was a smiley little thing who truly did seem to take pleasure in what she was doing. She even enjoyed watching my niece open her presents. I kept expecting to see a halo floating over her head. I definitely noticed that distinct lack of testosterone among the group of girls which was so prevalent amongst the boys when Nate was little. Oh, there were a couple of bumps and possible bruises (a natural result of horse-play out in the gaming area), and possibly some hurt feelings (now that's a girl-thing as opposed to the boys who would just get pissed), but overall they seemed to do quite well. Of course, I was only there for about an hour and a half so who knows if they crashed later when the sugar highs tumbled.
Afterward, I went to Trader Joe's and had a ball there! Besides the unique products at decent prices (gourmet, organic, low-fat, eclectic), I also got a kick out of the patronage. Lots of aging hippies, alternative lifestyles, and even rich bitches. My cheerful and friendly check-out gal had a super-tall black mohawk and her face must have had 15 piercings. Then two doors down is our birdseed store (owned by a rather elderly couple a universe away from TJ's) and I picked up a few items there.
It was a GOOD Saturday. Until the rains came.
