JDub and I had our final weekday lunch together today. (*Sniff*) I know I've mentioned it before, but I'm gonna say it again: I will so miss that!
I'm trying to get my head wrapped around a couple of big things. Visiting with Mom tomorrow and spending the day with her and Dad, and starting my new job on Monday. I'm really trying to hang loose, keep calm, take it easy, not get too hung up on anything, just deal with one day at a time. I'm afraid I would otherwise lose it.
The head manager at the restaurant where Nate works was giving him a hard time about taking this Saturday and Mother's Day off. He frequently works double shifts and takes on shifts from other workers who need a day off for one reason or another. But he was given a lot of grief about this, and he pretty much blew up. He loves his Nana and Papa (my folks), and we all know what life's priorities are all about! Why can't employers? Yes, the "bottom line" is important, but nobody ever sweats about that at the end of life. I'm constantly amazed at what a cruel and cold world it is out there. And here's poor Nate discovering that hard lesson for the first time and it's affecting him deeply. (No wonder people become bitter and cynical). Thankfully the restaurant's 2nd manager in charge (who is Nate's direct boss) stepped up for him and is being very supportive and kind. Thank God there still is a bit of that around.
JDub had his interview today for his current-but-temporary position that would make it permanent. He's required to go through the interview process along with other applicants for the job, and it's quite formal. It would be a true shock if he wasn't selected (because he's received incredible kudos since he's taken this on over the past six months), but he's certainly not taking anything for granted. He really does like it, and it's a perfect fit for him, although as I've (again) mentioned before, the shift sucks. (Or will since I'll be back to work on days). But neither of us believe this shift will be forever, and the experience gained from this will be very valuable when a stellar daytime management opportunity arises. At any rate, I hope it went well for him -- I'm sure it did. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it!
Heading to Azteca to meet up with my former coworkers for margaritas and appetizers! It'll be fun to see them!
